Trachycarpus Fortunei aka windmill palm. Extremely cold hardy fan palm originating from the himalayas growing at 8,000 ft in elevation. Trunk is covered with matted fibres helping to insulate it. In its native environment palm lives through(thru) snowy conditions and sub-zero weather. This palm is growing in the Brooklyn botanical gardens with just clear plastic as its winter protection.
